In this project the aggregation of mutated keratin 5 and keratin 14 will be investigated using modern imaging techniques. The aggregation, as observed in human EBS, is often accompanied by upregulation of chaperones. This project will test whether modulation of the chaperone machinery through addition of co-chaperones or other small molecules will influence the folding of keratins, or their degradation. Compounds with significant effects will be tested for their therapeutic potential in the future.
